VEDO did his big one with this one! And by big one, let me be clear — VEDO just gave us the R&B album of the year. Scratch that… the next five years. e·pit·o·me is exactly what the title says — the peak, the essence, the embodiment of R&B excellence.
If you know me, you know I LOOOOOOOVVVEE me some VEDO. From 93 to e·pit·o·me, and everything in between, he hasn't missed. But this ninth album? He's outdone himself.
🔥 First Track Magic
From the very first note of U.N.I., I knew we were in for a ride. It’s giving classic Jodeci vibez, the kind that make you bite your lip and stare out the window like you’re in a '90s music video. And just in case the album cover doesn’t let you know VEDO is standing on business’s neck, the leading track does everything a leading track is supposed to do — set the tone, set the mood, and set the bar HIGH.
🌟 My Personal Faves (aka Certified Vibez)
Honestly, all 17 tracks are laced with that signature VEDO energy — smooth vocals, emotional storytelling, and melodies that just feel right in my body. But a few songs hit a lil different:
Fine Shyt (which has been on repeat since the single dropped, because it's classic VEDO... I mean, come on)
Thinkin About You
It Feels Good
Me On Me
ATLANTA
Read You Well
Soundtrack Of Your Love
Every track slides effortlessly into the next, making this album perfect for any vibe — bedtime wind-down, a stroll through the park, or cruising in the Jeep with the top off at sunset.
🎤 The Midnight Love Vibez
From his poetic lyrics, to the instrument selection and arrangement, the zeitgeist of this album is giving late ‘90s–early 2000s BET Midnight Love -if you know, you know 😉 And listen… Fine Shyt, Thinkin About You, and I Can Be are the e·pit·o·me of Midnight Love vibez — Big Pun intended.
🧬 That R&B Lineage
One of VEDO’s superpowers is staying in his own lane while still nodding to the R&B greats. This project is full of that big VEDO energy we love, but I also felt the essence of Bryan-Michael Cox and Marques Houston all through Thinkin About You and I Can Be... 🤔 Although, I also hear some Breezy and Jagged Edge on that I Can Be as well... Maybe more Chris than Marques 🤨
Listen, don't get me deep diving into my music nerd bag, becuase I may never come up for air, and I have things to do 🤭
I hear a plethora of nuances throughout the album. And when you spin it, I'm sure you'll hear the essence of a lot of your favs as well.
Just to name a few that I hear:
Soundtrack Of Your Love is giving vintage Ginuwine.
Take It Slow feels like a smooth blend of Usher and Maxwell, with a little Micheal on the background vocals.
Don’t Change tastes like Breezy all day.
I Miss You reminds me a lot of Mr. Tiller.
And then he gave us Strong Man — a powerful, necessary track that hits deep. That one feels like my grandpa to me, laced with that Anthony Hamilton soul.
The influences are evident, but VEDO's ability to capture all of the elements across space and time like infinity stones, make them his own, and create a body of work that's relevant RIGHT NOW, RIGHT NOW, RIGHT NOW is astonishing and impeccably executed.
Job WELL done VEDO 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 This album is sheer perfection.
🏆 R&B Royalty Moves
He said this was R&B Album of the Year…I’m claiming it right along with him. Whether the Recording Academy agrees or not, I'm giving that brother his flowers and celebrating his 9th gem. VEDO just reminded us what real R&B sounds and feels like — grown, smooth, sexy, honest, and timeless.
If you haven’t tapped into e·pit·o·me yet, do yourself a favor and press play. No skips. No misses. Just soul. Thank VEDO later 😉
